Unit Three: Slave Narrative an The Puritans

1.Essential Questions
  • How do we use emotion as a persuasive tool?                                                                                  When you are trying to convince somebody to do something.
  • What is the difference between emotion and reason?                                                                     Emotion-is a feeling for example hate, love, happy                                                                          Reason- facts or actions that are caused
For what I have looked up in this unit is going to be about the people in the 16th century.

2. The native Americans believed in the myths. Myths that the people would tell them for example one myth that I have heard is that if you get you feet brushed you will get married with a widow. The puritans believed in  god and in the devil a lot and where they would go after death. They would believe that if you were bad with the people you would not go to god.

3. I think that sermon gives more of a reason then of an emotion because it says that he does not know why you are still here with god acting bad and that that's why you should be with the devil in hell.

4. A simile that was used in the video was the wrath of god is like a great water that are damned for the present that increased more as more waiting to burst.
A imagery was when he said the dreadful pit of the glowing flames of the wrath of god.

5. This story was about Equinao and his life when he was kidnapped as a child. He tells about his journey to the land of the white people. He describes how his master treated him when he was there. He talks about the conditions that were going on in the ship when traveling. He expresses his emotions when he reunited with his sister and his emotions when she was taken again.
He had a sad feeling. He describes what he sees with pain and want the reader to feel the pain that he is seeing. As soon as he begain to feel happy, his happiness was taken away from him. By expressing the emotion that he felt, Equinao wants you to imagine what slavery was like and that it was bad.

6. These poem is saying that everybody will no live for ever but we we loved. She uses a happy and sad emotion in this poem.
The puritans believed in god and the devil a lot. One example is were they say that the wrath of god is like a great water that are damned for the present.

Unit two: Journal account and historical narrative

1. I think this unit will be about king and queens in the really back days. This will be one of the most interesting units i would what to say. It will tell you what people lived back in thoes day i would say.

2. The General Historie of Virginia
i.subjective-From May to September, those that escaped lived upon sturgeon and sea crabs. Fifty in this time we burried; the rest seeing the President's projects to escape these misseries in our pinnance by flight (who all this time had neither felt want or sickness) so moved our dead spirits as we deposed him and established Ratcliffe in his place...
* This is a subjective because he is saying what happen during those months.

objective-Six or seven weeks those barbarians kept him prisoner, many strange triumphs and conjurations they made of him, yet he so demeaned himself amongst them,as he not only diverted them from surprising the fort, but procured his own liberty, and got himself and his company such estimation among them that those savages admired him
* This is saying what happened to the prisoners.

Jounal of the First Voyage of America
ii.subjective: we came upon a village of the natives about half a league from the place where the ships lay; the inhabitants on discovering us abandoned their houses, and took to flight, carrying of their goods to the mountain.
 * This is a subjective because he is saying what was thier with no detalles.
objective: I saw a snake, which we killed, and I have kept the skin for your Highnesses; upon being discovered he took to the water, whither we followed him, as it was not deep, and dispatched him with our lances; he was seven spans in length; I think there are many more such about here
*I think this is subjective because he measured the snake instead of just saying that it was a long snake.

3. The thing that happened in the text that i read today I think that important to the thing are going on right know because maybe if what happen back them would not happen we wouldn't have what we have know.

4. My work does explain the standard for example this text for the story journal of the first voyage of american, " I saw a snake, which we killed, and I have kept the skin for your Highnesses; upon being discovered he took to the water, whither we followed him, as it was not deep, and dispatched him with our lances; he was seven spans in length; I think there are many more such about here".

Unit One:Origin Myths and Oral Tradition

`I think that in this unit it will be covered over myth that people may believe in. Oral tradition may be a original tradition that the people had to communicate through words be mouth. This is what I think will be on this unit.

The Circle Of Life
by Larry Kibby

Oh Great Spirit Of the Indian People
Hear my words For they are words that come From the heart, soul and mind.

Oh Great Spirit Be my eyes, Be my ears, Be my heart, Be my soul,
So that I may walk With dignity and pride.

Oh Great Spirit Of the Indian People
Know of me. For I am of your people. I am Indian, An Indian of the Circle of Life
A prisoner of War In my own Land!

Oh Great Spirit, Of the Indian people,
Hear my words For they are for you. They are of you. You are my way of life
In the Circle of Life.

I think this poem is about  their circle in life such as their pride in their culture respect and what they think is important for them. I really like this poem because it talks about life and how the Indian would live their life and what they believed was important to them.

The earth on the turtles back

This story is about a women who in expectin a child and has a dream.  She told her husband about the dream he got sad because he said that they had to work really hard to make that dream come true. One day she feld into a tree  hold that was on the floor. She came flyingdown the sky and that when the animals wanted to take her back to earth. They tried to go down and get it but nobody could until a little muskrat came a brought it up and put it on top of the turtle.

The Chief of Skyland's young wife was expecting a child. One night she dreamt she saw the great tree
uprooted. The next morning she told her husband her dream. "This is very sad," he said, "for it is a
dream of great power and we must do all we can to make it come true." Then the chief called all the
men together and told them they must uproot the tree. But the roots were so deep and strong they
couldn't budge it. ( this is how I know that they really cared about there culture.)

The myth that i choose was Chinook.this is about Talapas he gave life to the earth but as eggs. He then told Thunderbird to take really good care of these eggs so that they could not brake.Thunderbird had to place then on top of a mountain named Colombia river. He did as followed. Then some people not wait for the eggs to hatch they broke them. Then the spirit bird with to the sun and consumed her with fire in revenge. Soon the eggs that were left over became Chinook.

I really dont see any relation between us know and then. Know we don't go to the sun. I think this was important to the people back then because they really believed what people would tell then. If they didn't do something bad who happen to them.
